Multi-screen Dual-monitor setup

I want to set up a console consisting of two monitors, one keyboard/mouse to control my desktop and laptop, with the two monitors setup for extended desktop (so that the mouse can be dragged from one screen to the next).
The laptop has one HDMI output.
The desktop has DisplayPort and VGA outputs.
The screens have HDMI; DVI and VGA inputs.

    Can you recommend a solution?

    Hi Jane,

We can identify an number of issues here:
    1) Being that the laptop has only one video output, when switching to it only one screen will show its video, while the other will remain blank.
    2) Being that the desktop has one analog video output (VGA), you'll need to use a switch that can interpret both analog and digital video signals. On top of that, the switch will have to get connected in a way that the analog input (VGA from desktop) is connected to the same bus (same row of connections) as the analog output (VGA screen).
    3) Being that you have so many different connection types, the need for adapters is inevitable.

Being that it supports DVI-I (both digital and analog connections), CS1642A will support this setup, although the cables that come with it will only support the digital (HDMI) connection from the laptop and the DisplayPort connection from the desktop (because they do not support analog video).

Look here for DisplayPort to DVI adapters.

Look here for HDMI-DVI adapters, or alternatively, look here for HDMI-DVI cables.

Look here for VGA-DVI cables and adapters.

    Hope this helps!
