Switch DisplayPort frustrations

We're looking to install a (what appears to be a fairly simple) 4-port DisplayPort KVM switch, to switch video and audio (integrated within the DisplayPort interface) between 4 computers, to be controlled via a single DisplayPort monitor / USB keyboard/mouse console.

We tried using IOGEAR (a brand we have been using very satisfyingly for many years) and a StarTech, but each had its problems with audio switching, retaining video resolution upon switching, or just making a loud unwanted noise upon hot-key switching.

At your recommendation we want to try out AdderView 4 PRO DisplayPort [AV4PRO-DP], but we'd like to confirm the following before we place an order:

    1) Will it support audio via the DisplayPort interface (avoiding a separate analog audio input/output connection via 3.5mm interface)?

    2) Does this KVM switch beep (or make any other sound) upon hot-key switching? And if it does - can this sound be turned off?

    3) What is the default hot-key sequence for switching via the keyboard?

    4) Can the default hot-key sequence be changed to something else? What are the available options?

    Hello Greg,

Important note: To continue this discussion - please respond via KVMGalore HelpCenter thread, NOT via e-mail.

    Thank you for reaching out.

AdderView 4 PRO DisplayPort uses Ctrl and Alt as its standard hot-keys, followed by the port number (1, 2, 3, or 4)

Yes. You can change the hot-keys to be:
    Ctrl + Shift
    Alt + Shift
    Right Alt
    Alt
    Left Ctrl + Alt
    Right Ctrl + Alt

No. AdderView 4 PRO DisplayPort supports audio through a separate 3.5mm audio interface.

No. AdderView 4 PRO DisplayPort makes no sound upon switching using hot-keys.

Note: For even more convenient switching you may want to consider the compatible Adder 4 Way Remote Control Keypad.

    Hope this helps!

Could you please point out HDMI KVM switches that support embedded audio via the HDMI connection?

Could you also please point out DisplayPort KVM switches that support embedded audio via the DisplayPort connection?

Most HDMI KVM switches that use HDMI cables do support embedded audio via the HDMI connections. We were able to confirm this for models made by SmartAVI, ATEN and IOGEAR.

Some DisplayPort KVM switches that use DisplayPort cables do support embedded audio via the DisplayPort connections, while others do not.
We were able to confirm that models made by SmartAVI, ATEN and IOGEAR do support the embedded audio.
We were able to confirm that models made by Adder do not support the embedded audio.
We were unable to confirm models made by Gefen and StarTech.

    Hope this helps!

We are now able to confirm that DisplayPort KVM Switcher made by Gefen does support the embedded audio via the DisplayPort connections.
