Switch DisplayPort KVMs supporting audio through DisplayPort

I'm looking at two DisplayPort KVM switch models (CS782DP and GCS1932) and I'm wondering:

    a) Do these KVM switches support the audio that comes in from each connected computer through the DisplayPort connection? or is a separate audio feed required from each connected computer into the KVM switch?

    b) Is it possible to remain connected to the audio coming from computer A even as I switch keyboard/mouse and video to computer B?

    Hello Scott,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Yes. Both models take the incoming audio coming in through the DisplayPort connections from each computer and de-embed the audio to become available for output via the 3.5mm green audio connector for speakers/headphone.

It is not required, but rather optional, and useful if you're looking to have independent audio switching (see below).

Yes. This is called independent audio switching. Independent audio switching is supported only if the audio feed from each computer is made via a separate 3.5mm audio connection between each computer and the KVM switch. Independent audio switching is not supported when the audio source is the DisplayPort connection. As you can see in the details of both models, audio through DisplayPort cannot be switched independently.

    Hope this helps!

    Hey Scott,

It looks like we were too quick to respond, and so we must revise one of our statements above.

This is incorrect. There is no support for de-embedding the audio. The audio is pass-through. If the audio is coming in embedded in the DisplayPort - it will remain embedded in the DisplayPort going out, requiring a screen with built-in speakers (like a TV) that supports audio via DisplayPort.
Only independent audio coming in through 3.5mm connections from the computers is available for output through the 3.5mm green speakers jack on the KVM switches, supporting independent audio switching as previously described.

    Sorry for the confusion.
