Switch Sharing VGA, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt video

    I am buying a new Windows 8.1 Xeon workstation with on-chip Intel 4600 graphics via DisplayPort connector, and looking for a 27" WQHD (2560x1440) monitor that will meet my needs for years to come. Unfortunately, I must share the monitor with an archaic Windows XP rig with an Magnum/Xpert 128/Xpert 99 video card (VGA only) which claims it can support 1920x1080, but I am surprised since this is a TigerDirect PC more than a decade old.

    I can probably get by with Dell or Asus monitors connecting one PC via DisplayPort and the other via VGA.

    However, I am intrigued by the 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display. Is there some KVM, and/or adapter cable, whereby the old VGA PC could share access to the Thunderbolt Display?

    Not sure what you mean by this.
    Are you looking to set up one console (ONE monitor, one keyboard, one mouse) through which you would like to access and control both computers?

    All I really need to share is the monitor.

    Can a VGA video-card connect to Thunderbolt (monitor or KVM), and if so, what adapter cables are required?

    [​IMG]Yes, Thunderbolt is compatible with VGA, so you should be able to connect your Thunderbolt monitor to a VGA video card.

    Thunderbolt typically uses Mini DisplayPort connectors. You will therefore need to use a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, such as iAdapt VGA.
