Switch Need a KVM Solution

  1. Need help finding the best solution... Laptops are not allowed admin privileges, so cannot install software solutions currently on the market.

    I have 2 Lenovo ThinkPad Laptops, with docking stations. Each laptop has 2 external monitors. The laptops are fully independent of each other. I work on both all day long. I need for something like an external Logitech ergonomic wireless keyboard and mouse to be able to work with both laptops. I go back and forth many, many times a day.

    I am looking for a KVM switch suggestion that will accomplish this without the monitors going through the KVM switch, as they currently use the docking station.

    Needs to be a very simple and easy way to switch back and forth via hardware. Often I have to switch systems 3-5 times in a 5 minute period.

    Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.

    Since you're not looking to switch video, you could make use of a KM switch (keyboard/mouse switch). Alternatively, you could use a KVM switch without connecting the video ports.

    Please be advised that generally speaking, KVM switch don't work well with wireless USB peripherals. Most KVM switch manufacturers do not specify compatibility with wireless wireless keyboard and mouse. Your wireless keyboard and mouse may work with any switch you end up choosing, or they may not, and there is no way to tell until you actually try it out. Even if you're lucky and your wireless keyboard and mouse do initially work with the switch you chose, they may stop working after a period of time with no apparent rhyme or reason (learn more about this).
