IP KVM over IP and Latency Expectations

Hi, I am looking to replace my TinyPilot KVM with a dedicated KVM over IP device that provides 1440p resolutions or greater and lower latency. Currently the TinyPilot only does 1080p30 and a noticable 200ms of latency.

Currently looking at the Dominion KX IV-101 and the ATEN CN9950. From reviews that I have read on amazon and other info on the web the KX4-101 seems to have the better reviews and quite possibly close to 50ms latency. When operating over LAN could I expect a near source level latency (50-100ms) from either of these devices?

Given your return policy, it does not seem like I can try to see if it fits my needs and return it if it does not.

    Hello Nick,

Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.
Possibly even faster. In house testing gives <1ms ping times. That's what we would expect, at least, connecting to it from the same local subnet.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the quick response!

While the ping between client and KVM might be fast over the LAN, I guess a more detailed question on latency is - is there a noticable delay between moving the mouse cursor on the client side and then viewing the mouse cursor move on the host?

Is there a preference in your experience on either the CN9950 or the KXIV-101 being the better choice for a more seamless experience?

Inherent to KVM over IP technology, there will always be a slight delay. With a good product (such as these two) it typically boils down to the speed and available bandwidth of your network.
These are two high-end products that perform very similarly in our experience. They do, however, differ in their feature set (video interface; audio support and more) - Compare the two on kvmgalore.com to see the differences in features.

    Hope this helps!
