    Hi,

I'm looking for a KVM over IP device. Below are the basic requirements and some nice to have options. What would you recommend?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Jeff

    Required:
    • BIOS level access independently of OS (Watch the remote computer boot and be able to perform CMOS setup activities)
    • Compatible with VNC
    • Auto sensing digital or analogue video interface
    • USB and PS/2 keyboard and mouse connections
    • Virtual media support (via USB)
    • Audio-via-IP
    • High performance video
    • Enterprise grade security (using AES 128 bit encryption and RSA 2048 bit public key authentication)
    • Feed through port provides local console access
    • 10/100 Mb Ethernet port for IP network access
    • Power control functions supported (cycle power on the remote system)

    Nice to have:
    • Compatible with RealVNC (encrypted VCN)
    • Dual power connections
    • Dual Ethernet connections
    • Easy on screen display driven set up and configuration compatible with Java based web browsers
    • Compatible with most third party KVM switches
    • Can be rack-mounted and used as a KVM front end
    • Support simultaneous connections and user profiles
    • Modem port for dialup access

    Hello Jeff,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Have a look at our offering of single-port KVM over IP Gateways (16 different models to choose from). Your list of required features (along with those 'nice to have') is indeed comprehensive, but we are not aware of any single model that offers all the required features. And so it looks like you may need to prioritize, but you can do so easily by using KVMGFilter to see which models support which selected feature. For example, choosing 'Local Access' and 'VNC Support' brings down your selection to only 4 models.

Below please find some notes referring to you requirements:

A basic feature of any KVM over IP Gateway.

KVM over IP Gateways typically support only one type of video: Digital (DVI or HDMI) or analog (VGA), but usually not both.

You can typically find this feature in older models. Newer models tend to support USB only.

Models that do support this typically do so via an RS232 interface.

In a few weeks Raritan is coming out with a new model replacing their aging Dominion KX II-101 V2.
It will support: HDMI; USB; virtual media; audio; 4K video; local access; power control (wired to the computer's motherboard).
It will not support: VNC; auto-sensing video; PS/2.

    Hope this helps!
