Multi-screen KVM extender to host 5-6 monitors

Not sure what your application looks like and what you're looking to accomplish - Can you please elaborate?

- How many computers in your setup?

- What type of video do these commuters have?

- What distance are you looking to extend the KVM?

 

Alright - this makes more sense now.

Still - to be able to make a recommendation - we need to know what type of video do these commuters have?

 

It appears your requirements call for two integrated solutions:

1) Switching - to be able to control your 5 computers via one console (one monitor, keyboard and mouse).

2) Extension - to have this one console neatly extended some 35 feet away from the computers.

For switching, you should use a USB/VGA KVM switch. Position the switch in proximity to the 5 computers. This will allow you to have only one console in the office (instead of 5).

Anyone of these USB/VGA KVM switches will work for you. If you don't mind running coax cables from the switch to the computers, you may want to take a closer look at MiniView Ultra+ Combo. If you prefer running CAT-5 cables instead (for a neater installation - have a closer look at Smart 108 SPU.

For the extension, you should connect one KVM Extender to the KVM switch, then run only ONE CAT-5 cable to the console location (35 feet away). The KVM extender should have the ability to connect a local console as well as a remote console, so that you will end up with one console in the office (by the computers and switch), and another at the remote location.

Anyone of these USB/VGA KVM Extenders (with local access) will do the job. In particular, you may want to take a closer look at the KVM Extender USB.

 

To have 5 separate monitors to view the data from the 5 separate computers on 5 separate monitors simultaneously - keep the switching solution we've previously recommended but do not connect the computers' video outputs to the KVM switch. Instead - connect a VGA video extender (such as VGA Extender SRN) to each computer's video output to extend its video 35 feet away over CAT-5. You will end up with five CAT-5 runs for five remote monitors.

For keyboard/mouse - connect a USB Extender (such as USB Ethernet Extender) to the keyboard/mouse ports of the console connections of the KVM switch. This will extend the keyboard/mouse signals from the KVM switch 35 feet away over CAT-5. You will end up with one more CAT-5 run for the keyboard/mouse.

At the remote location (35 feet away) you will now have:

- 5 monitors, each displaying video from a different computer

- 1 keyboard/mouse controlling the KVM switch, allowing you to switch between the 5 computers in order to control them (make sure the KVM switch you select supports 'hot-key keyboard switching, allowing you to use the keyboard to switch between computers instead of using push-buttons on the front of the switch).

At the local location (where the computers are) you will not have any monitors, keyboards and mice. Please let us know if you need to duplicate the setup at the local location (i.e. have 5 monitors and 1 set of keyboard/mouse) - we could then recommend using extension solutions that offer local pass-through.
