Video DisplayPort convert to HDMI

I have a DisplayPort KVM over fiber for electrical isolation purposes. I can plug the output into a DisplayPort monitor and see the display. I want to convert the output so it can be captured by a USB capture card. So I have a DisplayPort to HDMI splitter to convert to HDMI and see nothing. I assume it has to do with the EDID.
Does this appear correct? The PC is recognizing that it needs to send a HDMI signal out through the DisplayPort which is not compatible. Is there a way to tell the PC to keep sending DisplayPort and doing the converting on the splitter? What would you recommend to correct this? I need to keep the DisplayPort isolator.
