KVM KVM switch an EDID emulator

    Hello

I have a KVM switch (from Level1tech) 4 monitors (all four are Barco monitors MDNC 3421) and 2 PCs. KVM doesn't have EDID built in. All monitors are connected via DisplayPort.

I have separate software Radiology PACs system on both computers. When I switch from one PC to another the monitors lose positioning of current layout.

So I am wondering what is the best EDID emulator to utilize?

    1. SM-EDP - seems like a good option and description under the product says designed to help overcome EDID related issues with KVM

    2. DP-HP-MNTR-SRC - more expensive. What is the difference between hotplug and the other EDID?

    3. DP8K-EDID-EMLTR - so it says in the description "and ensures that the EDID signal is not lost when using AV/KVM extenders and splitters." But then up top it says NOT recommended for use in conjunction with KVM or video-only switches*"???

    Thanks

    Resh

    Hello Resh,

Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.

    Two different brands.

It works well with AV/KVM extenders and splitters, but NOT recommended for use in conjunction with KVM or video-only switches.

    Hope this helps!

    Resh,

Another option to consider is using a DisplayPort quad-view KVM switch which does support EDID, such as SM-EDPN-2Q.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello again, Resh,

Smart-AVI is telling us that SM-EDP will not fix the issues because it is caused by the Barco monitors. Barco monitors have a sequence in how they deploy EDID and it needs to be fixed or adapted to on a firmware level.

Smart-AVI's SM-EDPN KVM switches are adapted to Barco, Eizo, and Double Black EDID settings. However, the dongle will not help with Barco unfortunately.

If you want to purchase an SM-EDPN-2Q, Smart-AVI can hold your hand and setup that system for you if it does not work automatically.

    Hope this helps!

Oh got it. Well that's unfortunate that the Smart AVI dongle won't work.
Would the DP-HP-MNTR-SRC hotplug work ? Or also same issue with Barco monitors?
Buying a new KVM is an option, but I can't return the old one now and that was pricey as well.

    Thank you

    Hello again, Resh,

NTI is stating that their DP-HP-MNTR-SRC units were designed by them to remedy such a problem.

Please note that one DP-HP-MNTR-SRC unit is needed at each port of the source.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for checking on that.
To confirm does the dongle require separate power source?

    Resh,

The DP-HP-MNTR-SRC does not require a separate power source. As indicated in its specifications, it is powered by the video source.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

I ordered and received the NTI hot plugs.

However my Barco monitors don't function properly after plugging the hot plug in as instructed on the manual.

After I switch to a new computer on the KVM and then go back to the other computer, the Barco doesn't recognize a signal. I have to turn off all the Barco monitors and then turn them back on and then it'll receive the signal.

Would appreciate any help. I can upload a video of the issue if allowed.

    Thanks!

    Hello again, Resh:

    A) Please confirm that the connection chain is = Source Video DP port > DP-1M-MF cable (supplied with unit) > DP-HP-MNTR-SRC unit > DP male-male cable > Level1tech KVM > DP male-male cable > Monitor.

    B) Please confirm that the recommended installation procedure was followed (not just above connection sequence):
    1. Power down all equipment
    2. Plug the DP-1-MF into the source port. (We recommend using this to ensure a tight connection to the source and it may act as a strain relief)
Plug the DP-HP-MNTR-SRC into the female port of the DP-1-MF.
    3. Connect all other cabling as above
    4. Power up the monitor
    5. Power up mid-stream equipment (e.g., KVM Switch, extender) if any
    6. If there is a KVM switch, ensure that the KVM is set to the source that is being powered and Power up source.
    7. Once the source is fully booted and an image is displayed, the DP-HP-MNTR-SRC is functioning. The KVM switch (if any) can be switched to next port and other sources can be powered as per step 6 until all sources are fully booted and working.

    C) Please provide the length of DP male-male cables

    D) Please provide the model number of the Level1tech KVM
