Switch Seeking new KVM to handle older DVI port and newer HDMI/DisplayPort

    Hi,

I'm seeking a KVM that will allow me to use my old PC with a DVI port and my newer PC that has HDMI and a DisplayPort.

Currently I have an IOGEAR unit that goes DVI- to the current PCs and it has 2 of the older round mouse and keyboards interfaces on it, so basically each PC has a DVI, and older mouse and older keyboard currently all works good.

But my new PC doesn't have DVI port on the back, just the HDMI and DisplayPort and USB ports as well (but none of the older-round ports) and only 1 of the old round mouse/keyboard ports.

Is there basic KVM unit that can handle this type of setup?

    Thanks

    mm

    Hello mmnyc,

Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.

We have some questions that need to be clarified before we can address the issues you brought up:

    1) What type of video connection does your monitor have (e.g. DVI; or HDMI; or DisplayPort)?

    2) How many computers in total are looking to control via the KVM switch (e.g. two or three)?

    Please advise.

    Hi, thank you!

I believe I figured it out for now, as my old pc had an nvidea gtx board with a DVI port, that what I use with my current KVM switch (i/o gear 2 port)

I'd forgotten, but I took the card out and put into new PC, and the port is the same! So I'm fixed for now. But soon enough, I'll want/need a new monitor, so I'll probably then use my KVM to a DisplayPort/HDMI version (new PC has DisplayPort and HDMI) - I'd just need to get a simple expansion card for my other old pc that I still use.

    Thank you.
