Switch DisplayPort and EDID with KVM systems

    Hi,

I've ordered a KVM (not from you unfortunately, I didn't know about yours at the time) and I've just realized that I may have a problem and need 2 of your products.

    The KVM I ordered is a https://www.tesmart.com/products/te...ading-for-quad-monitor?variant=39570158321860

After ordering I noticed that that specific model says it does not support EDID emulation. I had no idea what this was until I found some posts on your site explaining. I believe I might get problems with switching, without EDID emulation.

I just want to check though before I buy more bits.

My setup is 2 4k DP monitors (https://www.benq.eu/en-uk/monitor/designer/pd3200u/specifications.html) that I want to switch between my PC and a new laptop I'm ordering.

The PC has a RTX 2080 Super which outputs via 2 DPs sockets to each monitor. The laptop is a Dell XPS 15. I will be buying a converter from Dell to get USB-C -> DP https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/del...ower-pass-through/apd/470-aegy/pc-accessories

These will both plug into the KVM and out to the 2 monitors, so I can swap between the 2.

After reading some posts here, I believe I need to get 2 of your devices, to put between my PC and the KVM, and between the laptop and the KVM:

    1) Is this correct, I will need 2 of these to make sure my system works flawlessly and fix any EDID issues?
    2) Your product says DP 1.4. But my monitor and KVM says 1.2. I presume it will still work with 1.2?

    Thanks for your help, Rob.

    Hello Rob,

Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.

    Correct!

    Yes!

You could use this adapter to create 2x DisplayPort ports from one USB-C socket on your computer.

Not sure why it has 2x DisplayPort ports for each video - the KVM switch will support only 1x DisplayPort port for each video feed, for a total of 2x DisplayPort ports for each computer.

    Hope this helps!
