KVM KVM switch an EDID emulator

    Hello

I have a KVM switch (from Level1tech) 4 monitors (all four are Barco monitors MDNC 3421) and 2 PCs. KVM doesn't have EDID built in. All monitors are connected via DisplayPort.

I have separate software Radiology PACs system on both computers. When I switch from one PC to another the monitors lose positioning of current layout.

So I am wondering what is the best EDID emulator to utilize?

    1. SM-EDP - seems like a good option and description under the product says designed to help overcome EDID related issues with KVM

    2. DP-HP-MNTR-SRC - more expensive. What is the difference between hotplug and the other EDID?

    3. DP8K-EDID-EMLTR - so it says in the description "and ensures that the EDID signal is not lost when using AV/KVM extenders and splitters." But then up top it says NOT recommended for use in conjunction with KVM or video-only switches*"???

    Thanks

    Resh

    Hello Resh,

Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.

    Two different brands.

It works well with AV/KVM extenders and splitters, but NOT recommended for use in conjunction with KVM or video-only switches.

    Hope this helps!

    Resh,

Another option to consider is using a DisplayPort quad-view KVM switch which does support EDID, such as SM-EDPN-2Q.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello again, Resh,

Smart-AVI is telling us that SM-EDP will not fix the issues because it is caused by the Barco monitors. Barco monitors have a sequence in how they deploy EDID and it needs to be fixed or adapted to on a firmware level.

Smart-AVI's SM-EDPN KVM switches are adapted to Barco, Eizo, and Double Black EDID settings. However, the dongle will not help with Barco unfortunately.

If you want to purchase an SM-EDPN-2Q, Smart-AVI can hold your hand and setup that system for you if it does not work automatically.

    Hope this helps!

Oh got it. Well that's unfortunate that the Smart AVI dongle won't work.
Would the DP-HP-MNTR-SRC hotplug work ? Or also same issue with Barco monitors?
Buying a new KVM is an option, but I can't return the old one now and that was pricey as well.

    Thank you
