Switch Old desktop - new laptop - KVM switch that supports

Discussion in 'KVM' started by Andy Greenwald, Dec 24, 2025 at 3:11 PM.

  1. I have an older desktop computer from 2014 that has 2 HDMI monitors connected to it via an HDMI to DVI cable. The keyboard and mouse are USB.

We have a new work laptop HP EliteBook 630 G11.

I don't know much about KVM's, but I know the laptop does not have any DVI ports.

I want to switch between the old desktop and new laptop with a push button.

What kind of KVM switch would I need for being able to switch between the computers?

    Hello Andy,

Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.

We have five questions that need to be clarified before we can address the issues you brought up:

    1) Does the computer have 2x HDMI ports? or 2x DVI ports?
    2) Does each monitor have an HDMI connector? or a DVI connector?

    3) What kind of video ports does the laptop have?
    4) How many of these video ports?

    5) Are you looking to set yourself up with 1x keyboard/mouse and 2x monitors with extended desktop?

    Please advise.
