Question KVM for Dell U2720Q, Mac Mini 2018, MBP 2019?

So in the beginning I didn't realize this is much more complex than my VGA-based KVM I last used 15 years ago, much more complex. Now I need to contend with HDMI vs. DisplayPort vs. DisplayPort++, USB-C/TB3 to DP or HDMI, EDIDs, passive adapters, active adapters, ect.

So after much searching, I think possibly that the ATEN CS1824 KVMP is suitable for my needs, but I'm not sure. It claims to support EDID emulation, which seems to be what I want to avoid the complaints I see about computers not recognizing displays for lengthy delays and windows getting reset? (I gave up on finding DisplayPort switches that do this, as they mostly don't exist.)

My goal is to use the MBP in clamshell "closed" mode and bounce between the Mac Mini and MBP as needed with the display at 4K 60Hz. I don't need as far as I can tell, HDR or HDCP support? Mostly I want to switch between systems and have the display "just work" like my VGA KVM did 20 years ago, but that seems to be a complex ask.

The MBP 2019 needs a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Apple sells one. I can't tell if that passes an EDID or not? And if not, do I need an EDID emulator anyway for the MBP?

This is all hopelessly confusing, and none of this equipment is necessarily inexpensive, so I'd like to make the best purchase(s) I can upfront.
