Question KVM for laptop (USB-C connection) plus desktop (discrete connections)

Discussion in 'KVM' started by DigitalPigeon, Jan 23, 2022.

  1. Hello,

I'm looking for a double duty USB-C based docking station plus dual monitor KVM.

    My Requirements:
Laptop - USB-C "all in one" connection to the KVM
Desktop - USB-A keyboard, mouse, dual DisplayPort video output (2k video)
Other inputs / outputs - Dual DisplayPort monitors (2k), USB-A keyboard, mouse

Any product on the market that can accommodate this?

    Thanks all!

    Hello DigitalPigeon,

Thank you for reaching out on our HelpCenter.

Before we can point you in the right direction, we need some additional information about your setup. Please advise:
    1) We don't know what you mean by "discrete connections". Please advise.
    2) We don't know what you mean by "double duty". Please advise.
    3) We don't know what you mean by "docking station plus dual monitor KVM". Please advise.
    4) Finally, it is our guess that you are looking to set yourself up with one keyboard/mouse and two DisplayPort monitors, being able to switch between your laptop and desktop. Is this correct?

    Awaiting your response.

    Hello again DigitalPigeon,

Your image did not come through (you need to sign up in order to be able to attach an image). But we did receive your diagram which is very helpful.

You will need a dual-view DisplayPort KVM switch.
But since your laptop doesn't have external video ports, you will need to connect a USB video adapter that supports 2x video connections in order to 'create' them. UH3231 may be even further helpful because it also provides a USB Type-A connector you could use to facilitate USB connection from the laptop to the KVM switch.

    Hope this helps!
