Is it possible for a guest to come in to an office, plug a device into their laptop and send their desktop to a LED monitor?

Can this be done without loading software on to the laptop?

What capabilities does the LED monitor have to have (not purchased yet)?

Absolutely. All you need is a video extender.

The 'transmitter' portion of the video extender will connect to the laptop's video port. The 'receiver' portion of the video extender will connect to the LED monitor video-input port. A CATx cable will connect the 'transmitter' to the 'receiver' and you are all set!

Most common laptop video ports are VGA. You will need a VGA video extender to facilitate this, and you will need to make sure your LED monitor has a VGA video-input port.

Another pretty common laptop video port (especially in newer laptops) is HDMI. You will need an HDMI video extender to facilitate this, and you will need to make sure your LED monitor has an HDMI video-input port.

Another option is to accomplish this video extension wirelessly. This solution may be even more beneficial since it utilizes the laptop's USB port, so you don't have to worry about video compatibility between your extension system and any laptop that enters the office. Choose a wireless video extension system that supports video that is also supported by your LED monitor.
